Ronald Howard (born November 14, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American professional basketball player.
Howard started his college career at Marquette University before transferring to Valparaiso University where he helped the Crusaders to the 2004 MCC regular season championship and tournament win in 2004. He earned All-MCC 2nd team honors in 2005.
Howard then played in Mecico's CIBACOPA league earning a trip to their All-Star game and a championship win with Trigueros de Ciudad Obregón in 2007. He played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA D-League earning a trip to the 2010 D-League All-Star Game. He averaged 16.3 points at 49 per cent, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in three years with Fort Wayne but his numbers in his All-Star 2009-10 season were 20.6 points at 46 per cent, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists. At the conclusion of the 2009-10 D-League season Howard signed to play for Venezuelan club Marinos de Anzoátegui helping them to the Venezuelan LPB finals.
Howard signed to play for the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL as a replacement for the injured Troy DeVries in late 2010 and made his debut for the club on December 23rd in a rare loss at home against the visiting Townsville Crocodiles. He played 11 games for the 36ers and averaged 8.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game[1] before injuring his ankle in the first quarter of a game against the Melbourne Tigers at the Adelaide Arena on February 18. The injury was to put Howard on the sidelines for up to 3 weeks which prompted the 36ers to waive his contract as there were only 6 games left in the 2010-11 NBL season.[2]
As one of the top 10 scorers in the D-League for the 2009–10 season, Howard earned himself a spot in the Milwaukee Bucks training camp where he was one of the final players cut from squad and comes highly recommended by the Bucks Australian Center Andrew Bogut. Howard almost never made it to the Adelaide 36ers though after narrowly missing out on joining the Bucks, he was then signed on to the New York Knicks roster but joined Adelaide before he could make an appearance.[3]
